April 2019 Wrap-Up

Very little progress made this month in terms of clearing out the backlog thanks to the season of The Drifter in Destiny 2.  I think, however, that the ‘newness’ of the season is wearing off.  Here’s a rundown of what I did accomplish:

The Division 2 (PS4)  After a LENGTHY install process, it’s time to take back DC!  A bit disappointed that the character creator is so different from the first game that I couldn’t re-create my agent from The Division.  Which means I can’t continue with my weird head cannon / fan fiction that my agent from The Division went on to South America in Ghost Recon:  Wildlands after the mess in NYC was cleaned up. So I guess this is a whole new agent with a new story to tell. There’s SO MUCH TO DO in this game (not that that’s a bad thing) that I’ve been going to bed late the last few days.  Overall, I enjoyed playing through the game, but I did miss the guys I played the first one with.  Just wasn’t as much fun without them.  Also stoked that my theory was right and that Black Tusk wasn’t going to show up until after the main campaign was complete.  Not so stoked that their arrival essentially means playing through the entire game AGAIN, but if my new team is interested in multiple playthroughs then I’m all in.  Getting this platinum might be a little harder than the first game, but I’m going to try.

  • 1st session:  3 hours, 16 minutes +1 trophy

  • 2nd session:  2 hours, 24 minutes  +0 trophies

  • 3rd session:  1 hour, 7 minutes +0 trophies

  • 4th session:  3 hours, 25 minutes  +1 trophy

  • 5th session:  1 hour, 24 minutes  +0 trophies

  • 6th session:  4 hours, 33 minutes  +3 trophies

  • 7th session:  3 hours, 2 minutes +1 trophy

  • 8th session:  2 hours, 27 minutes  +2 trophies

  • 9th session:  3 hours, 15 minutes +0 trophies

  • 10th session:  5 hours, 47 minutes  +1 trophy

  • 11th session:  8 hours, 11 minutes +3 trophies

  • 12th session:  5 hours, 51 minutes  +3 trophies

  • 13th session:  14 hours, 39 minutes  +6 trophies

  • 14th session:  3 hours, 37 minutes  +0 trophies

  • 15th session:  10 hours, 35 minutes  +2 trophies

  • 16th session:  2 hours, 29 minutes  +2 trophies (main campaign beaten April 22)

Runner 3 (PS4)  I have to say that messing with the formula in this game was a bad idea.  Switching camera angles makes getting collectibles in a single run extremely irritating and at times, flat out impossible.  Periodically I have to hammer the square button to get Commander Video to kick an obstacle since it seems the intended single button press does not work.  And oh yeah, like we needed boss battles in a game like this?

  • 1st session:  1 hour, 29 minutes +5 trophies

  • 2nd session:  1 hour, 27 minutes  +1 trophy

  • 3rd session:  55 minutes  +2 trophies (beaten April 24)

Returner 77 (iOS) (beaten April 23)  Puzzles and environments are cool but it’s nothing new, not burning with originality.  Also, the iOS version is incomplete compared to Steam.  Finally finished after dealing with the aggravating ring puzzle in The Den.  Probably won’t be back even if the other chapter(s) come to this version.

Games carried over to May:  6

Total Games Beaten for April:  3

Total Games Beaten for 2019:  26

Total Trophies Acquired (April):  20

Total Achievements Acquired (April):  0

Status of Carry Overs from March:  Incomplete

  • Theseus (PSVR) – will tackle at some point in May.

  • Soul Calibur 6 (PS4) – still no fighting stick.

  • Super Life of Pixel (PS4) – still no luck trying to get into the other machines.  Google searches are fruitless and I’ve collected everything that I can in every level.  Going to shelf this game for the time being and will not count it as beaten or completed until I can get to those other machines nor will I continue to count it as a carry over since I’m not going to be actively trying to play it.

  • Smash Bros Ultimate (Switch) – Need to set aside time to continue the World of Light quest.

  • Bravely Default (3DS) – still enjoying the game as I go, but only now reached chapter 2 (out of 9 chapters).  Level grinding is tedious but at least I now understand how the ‘Brave’ and ‘Default’ selections work.

  • Rain World (PS4) – this game is so boring but I do like the strange pixel art.  Found a walkthrough that I will use at some point in May to speed run it to the end and get it over with.

  • ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove! (PS4) – a sometimes funny but mostly infuriating Rogue like where 2 inept aliens and their girlfriends are trying to rebuild their ship.  Pretty sure once I beat it I’m never going to come back to it.
