TikTok Ban

So why did I choose ‘digital ephemera’ when I was creating this blog? Well, the imminent TikTok ban is a great example as to why. Unless something changes or happens in the zero hour, all that content from all those users out there is going to be gone in an instant. Digital ephemera.

I just spent the last thirty minutes or so taking screenshots of my favorite creators and their external links outside TikTok and downloading a few videos as a sort of digital memento. This bullshit ban is all I can think about.

Like some, I was pretty wary of this whole thing from the start because of all the rumblings about the links to the Chinese government and so on and so on. But after dipping my toes into the digital shores of this nebulous madhouse, I found there wasn’t anything to be afraid of. All that talk was just more fear mongering and I should have known better. Everyone should have known better.

And now that it’s become a place that our government can’t reach or censor because its out of their control, they want to ban it and I think that’s totally unfair and absolute bullshit.

So much for all the people that rely on TikTok for income and all the people out there, like myself, that found a sense of belonging and hope through that app. I joined back in 2020 when the pandemic was just beginning and along with the rest of this shit hole country, used it as a way to escape the awful reality that we were all living through.

Grandpa Biden and his asshole cohorts will never be forgiven for this shit, I can promise you that.
